UK Bus Tour – Part 2

I forgot to mention in the previous blog why we are here in the UK. We had to be out of our accommodation for a two week period from 20th July to 3rd August and had originally planned to stay in Italy, but recently we saw Ryan Airlines advertising some very cheap flights to the UK and decided that is where we would spend our two weeks. We then came across the bus tour and that was that – so here we are.

Day 4

We didn’t see ‘Nessy’, but we did enjoy our look around Inverness and Loch Ness. On the way up we travelled through the highland mist. The scenery photos were taken out of the bus window so the quality is not so good but it does give you an idea of the terrain.

The Scotch Whisky tour was interesting, but no photos, except some lovely flowers from their garden.

Day 5

Rolling hills all the way this morning. Stopped at Keswick for lunch – a beautiful village with flowers everywhere. Very busy as it is a main centre for the walking trails of the Lakes District.

Liverpool was lively for a Sunday night. After a walk around the docklands we had dinner and then went to the Cavern Club for a Beatles tribute night. The band was very good – sounded just like them.

Day 6

Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of Shakespeare and caters for about 3 million visitors a year. Another very pretty village which has traditional tudor houses and riverboats everywhere.

Day 7

Today was the first day we have had to do a walking tour in the rain. Unfortunately the lovely city of Bath we saw from under an umbrella – but definitely worth seeing it anyway.

From Bath our final destination on the tour was Stonehenge. Again the drizzle was a little too much for us so we saw Stonehenge from afar.

The tour has taken us on a quick overall view of the UK.

London was calling and we have arrived safely. We are looking forward to a couple of days sightseeing here before returning ‘home’ to Villa Isabella.

Responses

  1. Looks like the UK trip is a blast.
We r in the west and may spend some time at Jurian Bay.
Do u have any suggestions on accommodation ?

  2. The snaps of Scotland bring back fond memories especially of our time living in Edinburgh. Hope you enjoyed the haggis washed down by a dram of the angels brew. Jim I could not bring myself to tell you the Falcons got over the Royals up at South Geraldton the other week. Eagles are gone for this year and Dockers have been patchy. Oh well the stock market is up. Only 20 days to go and we will be in Copenhagen. Looks like you are having a lot of fun. Janet just back from Melbourne. Best wishes Peter & Janet

    • Yes it was a great trip. Oh those mighty Falcons!

  3. I mean Kerry with a y

  4. What a pity about the rain in Bath and Stonehenge. I loved Bath and go back any day.

    • Yes it was a shame about the rain, but we were glad that was the only day it rained – other days were wet but only while we were on the bus and then the sun shone while we did our tours. Lucky.

  5. Thanks for taking us on your tour of the UK…..very nice, beautiful flowers and the Beatles video, definitely sounds just like them. Enjoy the remainder of your time there.

    • We really enjoyed ‘The Beatles’. They were really good.

  6. Wow, what a great trip – albeit a bit busy!

We like the middle pic of Cheswick – that street has the B&B up on the hill, where we stayed a few nights back in 2009!

Is it time for a “rest day” in London town now!

    Keep it up,

    Larry & Anne

    • Really lovely little village – I’m sure it was a great place to stay.

      • Hi Jim and Kerrie,
Great to hear of your travels in the UK. Since we saw you last we have spent 4 days in Corsica, and had a wonderful road trip through the Burgindy region in France. Tonight we are in Paris awaiting our flight home tomorrow.
Look forward to reading the rest of your trip.
What a wonderful time we had with you in Bagni.
        All the best
        Paul and Karen

      • That all sounds great. Look forward to being in touch when we are next in Sydney.
We have really enjoyed your company in Bagni di Lucca.
        Cheers….Jim & Kerry
